Harlem - Apartment Gut Renovation

Originally erected in 2009 with standard builder-grade finishes, 12 years later, our client’s Harlem apartment screamed “update!” With a hands off mentality, our client enlisted us to complete a gut renovation that was fully inspired by his existing artifacts from world travels and his desire for an elevated space that provides both luxury and comfort. With careful detailing throughout in the lighting, furniture, fixtures and finishes, and a custom feature wall with openings for our client’s various artifacts, we did exactly what needed to be done from top to bottom in the 900 square foot 2 bedroom 1 bath.

Beautiful ebony parquet floors throughout reflect the natural light flooding the apartment during the day. Having a minimalist floor plan with plush furniture items, the space feels light, airy and comfortable. There once stood a dividing wall between the kitchen and dining space but after eliminating the wall, the space is now brighter and more open.

The kitchen, being exemplary of the aesthetic throughout, has clean, elegant, timeless finishes paired with natural woods and textures in the cabinetry, patterned backsplash, and the beautifully veined Calacatta quartz countertops. The perfect pop of color to contrast with the wood and white theme, exists in the adjacent hallway; beautiful olive green doors redesigned with classic mouldings, and matte black door levers. In addition to the green doors, there are also colorful wall art pieces displayed throughout, most imported from Jamaica.

Not too far away from the open living space, the spa-like bathroom, with even more texture provided by the Tangram wood-look porcelain feature wall tile reinforces the white with natural aesthetic found in the kitchen.

Opposite the bathroom is where the primary bedroom exists, again, with minimalist, luxurious and comfortable furniture and bedding, this room does not disappoint. Not to mention, the elegantly fun and abstract ‘Watercolors’ feature wall by Vycon, provided by Wolf Gordon, literally made our client scream happiness during the reveal, which in our opinion, makes this renovation PERFECT!
