Westport, CT - Vacation Home Design

If “out with the old, and in with the new” was a design project, this would be “that” design project. Our clients fell in love with the bones of this property and purchased it after renting it for a while during the height of the COVID pandemic. This house served as a place of refuge and respite for their family and it was only right to ultimately bring To Be Designed in to make it feel like home.

The home started dingy and outdated with some areas feeling disjointed considering there was no consistency or flow from one space to the next. Our clients desired to have a light and airy coastal vibe throughout, with cozy finishes. As with many of our projects, we took a minimalist approach to provide a space for easy living.

This home boasts 2 living spaces, a luxury dining room, guest loft, a man cave for relaxation, wine display and consumption of spirits and cigars, 4 bedrooms and a newly finished basement which became the perfect place to build out a custom playroom space and lounge area.

In speaking about some of the furniture and finishes, we utilize lots of neutral, ivory colored upholstery mirrored with statement furniture pieces of color, texture and uniqueness. The petrified wood coffee table in the sitting room overlooking the Saugatuck River, and the geometric-shaped organic dining table are just two prime examples of our design technique aforementioned.

With many of the spaces in this home having oversized windows, we forgo window treatments in most spaces to allow the natural light to pour in creating dramatic shadows and providing warmth as the sun travels throughout the day.

As with all our projects, we aim to make each space better than it was and this one was no different. What used to be old, cluttered and outdated, is now serenity and provides a breath of fresh air to our clients and everyone who visits their beautiful home.
